Edwards along with O'Neil are two of the initial names in the frame to replace Vitor Pereira as head coach of Wolverhampton Wanderers.

The previous coach was sacked on Sunday after the squad's 10-match without a victory beginning to the Premier League season.

Furthermore Edwards and O'Neil - both of who have historic links to the team - are part of the names to be evaluated by the club ownership.

The manager is currently at Middlesbrough, which would create a possible obstacle to his hiring at Molineux.

However the former Luton Town manager - who made over a century of appearances for Wolves during his time as a player - is said to be a leading candidate for the position.

The mid-career manager is said to have support from the club directors as they start the process of appointing a fresh manager.

Gary O'Neil is additionally emerging as a surprise contender, even though he would be a shock choice considering he was released by the club in December last year.

The ex- West Ham United midfielder is currently unemployed which means Wolves would not need to provide any compensation.
