Top-ranked Aryna Sabalenka Claims Back-to-Back WTA Player of the Year Accolades.
The top-ranked player Aryna Sabalenka has been voted the Women's Tennis Association player of the year for a second consecutive season.
The 27-year-old won four titles – the most on tour – which included successfully defending the US Open this past September against Amanda Anisimova to secure her fourth Grand Slam singles triumph.
A Season of Dominance
Over the course of the tour, Sabalenka played in a circuit-leading nine championship matches, with losses coming to Madison Keys in the Australian Open final in January and Coco Gauff in June's French Open final.
The Belarusian also triumphed at the Brisbane International in January, the Miami Open during the spring, and the Madrid Open as the clay season progressed. She spent the whole season as the top-ranked player, finishing 2025 atop the rankings for a second straight year.
This past summer, she became the first player to exceed 12,000 WTA ranking points since Serena Williams in 2015.
Historic Achievements
Sabalenka concluded the season with a 63-12 win-loss record, and picked up a record eleven million pounds in prize money.
She received almost eighty percent of the votes cast by global tennis journalists.
On 28 December, she is scheduled to face 2022 Wimbledon finalist Nick Kyrgios in a Battle of the Sexes-style exhibition match with the aim of "help bring women's tennis to a higher level".
Additional WTA Award Honorees
- Returning Star of the Year: Switzerland's Belinda Bencic, twenty-eight, was voted after taking a 13-month break following the birth of her daughter and returning to the sport earlier this season.
- Rookie of the Year: Canadian teenager Victoria Mboko was honored with the award after starting the season ranked outside the world's top 300 and soaring to the eighteenth spot.
- Partnership of the Year: Katerina Siniakova and Taylor Townsend were voted after capturing their second Grand Slam title together.
- Most Improved Player of the Year: Amanda Anisimova was named after reaching five finals.
Last week, Carlos Alcaraz secured three honours in the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) Awards, including the season-ending top rank award, while Jannik Sinner was chosen as fans' favourite for a third consecutive time.
